A global platform to provide specialized analytics and reporting to assist soccer clubs in their decision-making.

I was the leader of the Design and User Experience team that planned and developed a global platform for data analytics in soccer.

Founded in 2018, xG was born to answer a demand from the professional soccer market for data analytics on players and opponents to help decision-making. The company started its journey with a client from the French second division. xG helped the club move up to the first division using data analytics. In 2019 the company increased its client base and surveyed many problems faced by soccer clubs. From this survey, the company proposed a disruptive horizontal solution as an answer to the concerns of the professional soccer world: a marketplace. The main function of the marketplace would be to provide a single solution for all soccer clubs in the world. The marketplace would match the clubs and all their demands for players, coaches, soccer directors, and financing in a global market of R$ 640 billion. Besides the possible negotiations of players and staff, the platform would also offer data analysis reports, until then, the leading service provided by the company to several soccer clubs worldwide. The design of these reports was conceived by me.

My job as UX/UI leader was to translate the wishes and expectations of the company’s managers into tangible concepts and interactions. For this, a considerable amount of interface and interaction studies were developed, besides different personas, keeping in mind the different types of users that the platform could serve. My work also involved interviews with potential users and usability tests, besides developing the entire Design System used in the platform, which closely follows the design of the new corporate identity I created. The work was developed remotely since I started working for the company when I was already living in Austria.

Project Outcome

Key points

I led the Design and User Experience team that worked on the development of a global soccer data analytics platform for xG Football Intelligence, a Sao Paulo-based startup that provides data analytics services to professional soccer clubs worldwide. The platform aimed to offer services such as reports of soccer match data analysis, besides a complex system for comparing players and suggestions for improving the team’s strategies and optimizing the hiring of talents, from players to technical staff. The company have four different types of reports. Each report type the company already produced offline had to be translated and adapted to the platform.

What I learned

Working on the design of the xG Platform was one of the most intense and complex UX/UI jobs I have had the opportunity to develop so far. The company’s service is disruptive, requiring even more effort in planning all stages of the user journey and simplifying interactions and interfaces. The second point is that the platform was designed for different user profiles, most of them without any previous experience with this kind of platform (or even technology in general). Different user profiles will access different experiences and products within the platform.

I'm always looking for new challenges, projects and creative partnerships. Shall we talk?
