Probably the most fun way to sell language courses: stylized 3D animations

I worked on the production of a series of commercial videos to publicize language courses at the Senac school, broadcast in the South of Brazil.

In Brazil, only 1% of the population is fluent in English. Brazilians have among the lowest numbers worldwide who can communicate in English. According to the British Council, only 5% of the population can speak, and only 1% is fluent. In addition, English is not taught seriously during the school years, which explains the inability of the vast majority of the population to express themselves in English. This is why language courses are so popular, and this was the starting point for the “Nó na Língua” (Knot in the Tongue) campaign promoted by Senac Idiomas.

In this project, my primary collaboration was in the modeling and texturing of various characters, assets, and scenarios for the advertising campaign of Senac Idiomas, the branch of Senac dedicated to language teaching. At some point in the project, I got involved in rigging some characters and assets in collaboration with other technical artists. Finally, I worked on the animation of several shots. Lighting, rendering, and compositing were the responsibility of another team.

The client

Senac (in Portuguese, "Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Comercial") is a Brazilian educational institution created in 1946. It is a private entity with public purposes that receives compulsory contributions from companies in the trade and similar activities.

What I did

3D Modeling, Texturing, Rigging, and Animations.

Tools I used

Autodesk Maya / Maxon ZBrush / Autodesk Arnold Render / Adobe After Effects

Project Outcome

Key points

I was hired to bring adorable character concepts and assets to life. This involved modeling and texturing, then rigging and animating the characters and assets I had modeled. I wasn’t expecting to have to work on the rigging and animation, but I accepted the challenge because I really enjoyed the project. Contrary to what it may seem, working with stylized characters is not always easier than working with realistic ones!

What I learned

The best part of this job was the surprise of being hired for something specific and having delivered something that pleased me so much that the production company decided to give me another part of the project, which is always good for me, especially to exercise my technical skills in multiple areas.

I'm always looking for new challenges, projects and creative partnerships. Shall we talk?

Feel free to contact me. I love coffee and good conversations!
